8th artillery brigade “Harmash” of the First Corps Azov

An independent 8th Artillery Brigade “Harmash” has been established within the Corps. The creation of a separate artillery brigade represents a significant enhancement of fire support for combined-arms units in both defensive and offensive operations.

The unit faces a demanding task: to build a fully capable combat brigade and to scale the experience accumulated by Azov in combat operations from 2014 to 2026, implementing it through modern technologies and the best examples of domestic and Western weaponry.

The newly formed brigade has been built around experienced Azov artillerymen who have progressed through every level of command, from gun crew members to the most senior command positions at battalion and brigade artillery group levels. The unit will be led by Lieutenant Colonel Andrii “Dubok” Kovkrak, former Chief of Staff of the 12th Special Forces Brigade Azov.

The shoulder patch of the 8th Brigade “Harmash” features a lightning bolt whose strike forms an eight-pointed star. The lightning strike symbolizes an explosion, a mark of accurate artillery fire that inflicts heavy losses on the enemy while covering the combat operations of the infantry.
