A consecration ceremony for a memorial to Ivan Mazepa took place at the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, drawing attention to the hetman’s role in shaping the Lavra’s architectural complex at the turn of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
Later, Russian authorities sought to erase the memory of Mazepa, and the churches he built were destroyed. The Holy Dormition Cathedral was demolished by Soviet forces, and today it is once again coming under Russian drone strikes.

The fight for Ukraine’s independence became a time of restoring national identity. Representatives of First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine, who took part in the public hearings on the monument, have now joined the consecration ceremony as well.
We remember the great figures of the past and carry on their work!
