Every year on May 23, Ukrainians commemorate Heroes’ Day, honoring the memory of distinguished warriors and figures who gave their lives in the struggle for Ukrainian statehood.
The commemoration of Heroes on this day was established by a resolution of the Second Grand Assembly of the OUN in 1941.
During the occupation of Ukrainian lands, Heroes’ Day was observed underground. After 1991, it became possible to mark it openly. And the new war for Independence has compelled us to fully grasp the example set by the heroes of the past.
May we remember — and be worthy heirs to the struggle for the Ukrainian nation.
