On June 22, the day marking the beginning of the German–Soviet War, we honor the memory of the victims of war in Ukraine.
Lacking statehood at the time, Ukrainians found themselves caught between two totalitarian regimes that sought to impose their ideologies by force, brutally punishing dissent and destroying the lives of millions of civilians.
Life under occupation authorities, forced mobilization into foreign armies, mass civilian deaths, and deportations inflicted profound wounds on the Ukrainian people. Yet these were also times marked by extraordinary courage, mutual support, and the struggle for Ukrainian statehood.
We remember the tragic chapters of Ukraine’s history and continue to fight to ensure they are never repeated.
