On January 29, the Kruty Heroes Remembrance Day, a ceremony was held to honor defenders who distinguished themselves in combat.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky honored a fighter of the 12th Special Forces Brigade Azov and presented the Gold Star of the Hero of Ukraine to the family of a fallen serviceman of the 1st Presidential Brigade “Burevii.”
Sergeant Viktor “Simba” Hrebin, a serviceman of the 12th Special Forces Brigade Azov, was awarded the Cross of Combat Merit. In March 2025, “Simba,” together with his brothers-in-arms, repelled an enemy breakthrough into the rear of the positions of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. Later, despite sustaining severe wounds, he organized the withdrawal of his brothers-in-arms, thereby saving their lives.
The title of Hero of Ukraine, with the posthumous award of the Order of the Gold Star, was bestowed upon Major Vasyl Polahniuk, a company commander of the 4th Battalion of the 1st Presidential Brigade “Burevii.” He participated in combat operations in the areas surrounding the settlements of Bilohorivka and Serebrianske Forestry. The award was received by the Hero’s wife and son from the President.
