In July, the unit began deploying video signal interception posts, monitoring enemy UAV frequencies, and deploying jamming equipment. This period marked one of the first stages in building the unit’s combat experience, refining coordination with other brigades, and exchanging expertise in the fields of electronic warfare and electronic countermeasures.
Special Purpose Electronic Warfare Company 12th Special Forces Brigade “Azov”
About unit
The increasing number of unmanned aerial vehicles on the battlefield necessitated the creation of electronic warfare units within the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
In early 2024, an electronic warfare platoon was formed within the Azov Brigade’s support group. The platoon was primarily composed of servicemen from the brigade’s anti-aircraft missile and artillery battalion. On July 1 of that same year, a special-purpose electronic warfare company was established on the basis of the platoon by order of the Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine.
The unit’s primary mission is to counter enemy FPV drones. The company also combats reconnaissance aircraft-type UAVs, loitering munitions, guided aerial bombs, and other aerial threats. Electronic warfare (EW) equipment is used to intercept video signals from enemy UAVs and determine their location using visual landmarks and direction-finding devices.
The maintenance section develops its own electronic warfare equipment, repairs equipment, and provides technical support to the brigade’s units. The company’s personnel also train brigade servicemen in the effective use of electronic warfare equipment. The unit constantly exchanges experience with related units and manufacturers of electronic warfare and electronic countermeasure equipment.

The electronic warfare company continued to carry out combat missions in the Dobropillia sector, countering enemy FPV drones, intercepting video signals, and locating the positions of UAV operators.
