History

Defense of the Kyiv Region

2022

In the early stages of the war, the unit’s personnel took part in the defence of the Kyiv region — notably in the battles for Moshchun and Horenka. Amid fierce fighting, the unit carried out engineering work to fortify positions and laid minefields, which helped to hold back the enemy’s superior forces on the approaches to the capital.
Once the situation in the north of the country had stabilised, the unit was redeployed to the east.

Eastern Sector

2022-2023

The geography of ‘Algiz’s’ combat path encompasses Sievierodonetsk, Lysychansk, Bilohorivka and Bakhmut. A separate chapter was their participation in the fighting in the Serebryansky Forestry and in the Stelmakhivka and Cherneshchyna areas, where the fighters established firing positions and created a reliable network of defensive structures in difficult terrain.

Reorganization

September 25, 2024

On 25 September 2024, the unit was officially reorganised from a support force group into the ‘Algiz’ support battalion.

Kupiansk and Pokrovsk Sectors

2026

Today, the battalion operates in the Kupiansk and Pokrovsk sectors, employing both traditional engineering support and modern technologies — remote mining using UAVs and ground-based robotic systems, continuous engineering reconnaissance, and the construction of barriers to deter enemy assault groups.

The battalion’s main areas of activity include the engineering of defensive positions, mine clearance and explosive ordnance disposal, ensuring logistical security, conducting reconnaissance, and providing radiological, chemical and biological protection — including a flamethrower unit, radiological and chemical reconnaissance, and the specialised decontamination of equipment and weapons.

Thanks to its high level of technical training and coordinated operations, the ‘Algiz’ battalion ensures the stability of defences within the brigade’s area of responsibility, minimising losses among personnel and equipment.
