About unit

The “Tuman” Separate Special Operations Detachment (SSOD) is a combat unit formed in 2023 based on the sniper company of the 12th Brigade Azov. Its core was built from experienced servicemen of the Azov regiment and volunteers who joined the defense of Ukraine and the effort to relieve the siege of Mariupol.

The unit has followed a combat path from conducting missions in the forests of Kreminna to fighting in the Toretsk sector — including the area of the town of New York and the urban battles for Toretsk. In 2025, its fighters operated on the outskirts of Kostiantynivka, carrying out reconnaissance-and-strike missions and reinforcing the defense of the sector.

Within the unit, the unmanned aerial systems [UAS] branch is actively developing, demonstrating rapid scaling and effective operations across multiple sectors.

On November 1, 2025, the unit was incorporated into First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine and reorganized as the “Tuman” Separate Special Operations Detachment.

The “Tuman” SSOD is currently conducting combat missions in the Dobropillia sector, demonstrating a high level of readiness, effectiveness, and dedication to service.

"Mekhanik"

Lieutenant Colonel

“Mekhanik” is a fighter and commander who has stood at the creation of more than one special operations unit. Before the full-scale invasion, he founded the Special Reconnaissance Group [SRG], laying the groundwork for future combat capabilities.

In 2022, he took part in the defense of Mariupol — one of the hardest battles of this war. He went into captivity and came back to the ranks unbroken.

After his release, he took command of the sniper company and forged it into a cohesive, effective fighting unit. He went on to found the “Tuman” Separate Special Operations Detachment, which today carries out combat missions at the front.

Calm, steady, and cold-blooded — he says little, but it is he who sets the pace, holds the rhythm of battle, and leads his people forward. His authority is not words. It is action, proven by war.
