Khorunzha Service 20th Operational Brigade "Lubart"

About unit

The Ensign Service is a structural unit within a brigade responsible for fostering an internal culture, preserving the unit’s traditions and identity, and facilitating communication between military personnel, the public and state institutions. Ensigns carry out their duties directly alongside line units in the combat zone.

The main duties of ensigns are:

  • providing ideological and humanitarian training for personnel — lectures, talks and discussions on relevant historical, cultural and ideological topics;
  • maintaining and monitoring the morale and psychological climate within units;
  • keeping service personnel informed and assisting with organisational and welfare matters;
  • organising and participating in public engagement activities.

‘Lyubart’ continues and develops the Azov tradition of the Standard-Bearer Service, remaining one of the few military units that systematically cultivate this unique institution of modern military culture. For the brigade, this is not a formal position or a symbolic element, but ongoing work to strengthen the unit’s internal unity, values and ideological foundations.

A separate area of activity for the Standard-Bearer Service is the nationwide military culture project ‘Steel Word’. It comprises a forum of the same name and a network of military clubs established within higher education institutions, volunteer and veteran communities. As of December 2025, the project’s branches are active in Kyiv, Poltava, Lutsk, Odesa, Rivne, Lviv, Dubno, Lyubar, Kryvyi Rih and Novovolynsk.
